Dental Sealants Can Help Keep Your Child's Teeth Healthy

Although I love my daughter, I have never loved how sneaky she can be. After she kept coming home from dental checkups with cavities, I told her that candy had to stay out of our house until her checkups improved. Well, she found a loophole in our agreement, and she kept eating candy at friends' houses and at school. I realized I was fighting a losing battle, so I asked her dentist what we could do. He told me that she was a good candidate for a dental sealant that coated her teeth and protected them from decay. I could not believe there was such an easy way to help improve her smile. I had the sealant applied to her molars, and she hasn't had a cavity since! I created this blog to spread the word about how well dental sealants can work to help preserve children's smiles.

Are Same-Day Dentures Right For You?

by Vera Bradley

In recent years, same-day denture clinics have grown tremendously in popularity. This is because while the process of getting dentures used to take several weeks or longer, these clinics are now able to complete this process in just a single day. Naturally, many patients find themselves asking questions such as how these clinics can complete the denture process so quickly, or whether they are a good candidate for same-day dentures. If you have found yourself asking these same questions, you will be glad to know that the answers you are looking for can be found below.

How Do Same-Day Denture Clinics Work?

Same-day denture clinics break the dentures process into three steps. The first step is to take a mold of the patient's mouth and immediately send this mold to the in-office dental lab so that it can be used to fabricate their new dentures. This first step is typically completed early in the morning.

The next step will be to perform any necessary tooth extractions. This step is usually completed shortly after the dental mold is taken. This allows the patient as much time as possible to recover from the extraction process.

Finally, the patient is fitted with their new dentures and minor adjustments are made if necessary. This final step will typically take place later in the afternoon as the newly fabricated dentures begin to arrive from the lab.

Is There A Difference Between Same-Day Dentures And Traditional Dentures?

The dentures you receive from a same-day denture clinic are exactly the same as those you would receive when undergoing the traditional process of getting dentures. These same-day dentures use identical, high quality materials, and are fabricated by qualified lab technicians. The only difference is the amount of healing time that is allowed between each step of the process.

Who Is A Good Candidate For Same-Day Dentures?

Most patients will be good candidates for same-day dentures. However, there are a few exceptions. For instance, individuals who require a large number of tooth extractions or who show signs of an infection will need more time to heal than the same-day denture process allows.

Can My Regular Dentist Offer These Expedited Services?

Unfortunately, many dentists will not have the ability to offer same-day dentures. This is because completing the dentures process so quickly relies heavily upon immediate access to a dental lab. This is not something that many dentists have right in their office. Consequently, if you wish to receive same-day dentures, you will need to turn to a clinic that specializes in these services.
